Magis was born in August 1976 and just a few weeks later, the company at the Milan Furniture Fair appeared (in those days it was held in September). Since then, each year it has participated in the Fair to present its new products. And obviously, also this year Magis is bringing along its new things, however not like in the past as projects in the prototype stage, but as finished products. This is good news: the sign of a mature company. Now there is no longer the slightest shadow of doubt connected to the transmutation from prototype to product. That’s a risk that’s often slithering around the Magis products, because it always works on the edge, exploring the outer limits of technology to an extent where precious few other design manufacturers go. Twenty-one new products for the 2006 Fair, concluding a three-year design cycle that resulted in perhaps the best annual harvest that Magis has ever reaped in its 30-year existence.
Javier Mariscal was born in Valencia in 1950, and developed his professional career in Barcelona. The Mediterranean culture of both cities is revealed in his work: from it he has inherited the hedonism, optimism and symbolism that characterizes his designs, as well as the vibrant range of colours and his poetic approach. Before dealing with projects from a multidisciplinary point of view became a recognized value, his professional activity already moved easily and confidently from one discipline to another, thanks to his untiring curiosity and his passionate drive for innovation, contributing to make everyday life more interesting, easier and friendlier.
The creation of Estudio Mariscal in 1989, comprising a team of specialists who work closely with him, has allowed him to deal with complete projects. Mariscal is internationally renowned and his work reverberates widely in the media, due to the fact that he knows how to communicate directly with the general public, as does his work. Since his great speciality is drawing, his approach to any commission is an artistic one, using a universal, timeless language which adds value, uniqueness and emotional depth to his projects. His boldness is porportionate to the great challenges he has taken on, from the mascot for the Barcelona Olympic Games to the overall design of an extremely luxurious hotel, to the creation and direction of the film Chico & Rita.
